More Australian Championship Success for Coulter Family:

The success of the Coulter family, father and son duo Steve and Michael Coulter, in the Australian Truck Racing Championship continued recently after they secured the overall point standing honours in their respective classes during the third and final round at Barbagallo Raceway over in Western Australia.

In what was a clean sweep of all three rounds this year, Steve Coulter claimed his fifth consecutive Australian Championship victory in the Light Truck class, while his 19-year-old son Michael recorded back-to-back Australian Championships in the Co-Driver’s Cup for the Light Truck class.

Sharing the # 3 Trevor Page Racing Isuzu SBR throughout the year, Steve and Michael Coulter were able to secure their 2010 success with solid showings during the final round.

Coulter Snr took all before him in the Light Truck class when he not only qualified on pole position, but also claimed four out of four race wins. In the final race, the ‘Super Prix’, Coulter, who is also known as the ‘Giant Killer’, nearly pulled off the outright win up against his more powerful Super Truck rivals, but fell short and finished second to Beau Hewett after he had paced the field for the majority of the eight lap distance.

“It’s always a very big effort for everyone in the team to come over to Western Australia and the goal was to just get through the weekend without any dramas to have a consistent run and that was exactly what we managed to achieve in order to wrap up the Australian Championship,” expressed a jubilant Coulter Snr. “To win my fifth Australian Championship in a row is a big honour and none of it would have been possible without the wonderful support of the Trevor Page Racing team and of course my family.”

In only his second year in Australian Truck Racing Championship competition, Michael put in an impressive showing in the ‘Light Truck’ class for the Co-Driver’s Cup and it was enough for him to successfully defend his Australian Championship title. After topping the time sheets in qualifying, Michael was able to take out the winning spoils in the opening race and then in the second and final race he finished second behind his main rival all year, Kevin Anderson.

“I’ve had a good rivalry with Kevin [Anderson] all year and it’s been a pleasure to race against him,” commented Coulter Jnr. “To win one Australian Championship was great, but to do it again the following year has been fantastic. The key to that has been the guidance from my dad and the rest of the Trevor Page Racing team. They have certainly helped fast track the learning curve and a lot of credit and thanks must go to them.”
